The Saab 9000 was the first large sedan for the brand, positioned above the Saab 900 midsized car. It shared its platform with the Alfa Romeo 164 (and the Fiat Croma and Lancia Thema, which were not sold in the United States) and was replaced in 1998 by the Saab 9-5.
