The Porsche 944 was introduced in the United States in 1983 as a replacement to the Porsche 924, which was built on the same platform. The 924 returned in 1986 with the same (detuned) engine of the 944 and was renamed Porsche 924S.

The 944 was replaced in 1991 by the Porsche 968.

Porsche 944 Turbo: 13,982 units
