Mitsubishi Expo LRV Sales Figures

Mitsubishi Expo LRV

The Expo LRV was Mitsubishi’s answer to the growing compact MPV segment in North America. It was positioned as an affordable, versatile vehicle suitable for families or individuals needing more space than a typical compact car but without the bulk of a full-sized minivan. It competed against vehicles like the Honda Civic Shuttle (also known as the Wagovan) and the Nissan Axxess.

Mitsubishi Expo LRV Overview

The Mitsubishi Expo LRV is a compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) that was sold in North America during the early 1990s. It was a part of a line of small MPVs that emerged during that time, offering versatility in a compact package. It was offered in the U.S. market from 1992 to 1994.

The Expo LRV was based on Mitsubishi’s compact car platform, which was shared with vehicles like the Mitsubishi Mirage. The Expo LRV had a raised roofline, allowing for more vertical space inside. It was designed to carry up to five or seven passengers, depending on the configuration. The vehicle was available in a 3-door or 5-door hatchback configuration. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions were available. The Expo LRV was typically powered by a 1.8L or 2.4L 4-cylinder engine. The Expo LRV was sold in Europe as the Mitsubishi Space Runner.

After the Expo LRV was discontinued, Mitsubishi did not replace it directly in the North American market. The rise of SUVs and the sustained popularity of larger minivans made compact MPVs less popular in the region.
