Launched in 1996 for the 1997 model year, the Catera was the spiritual replacement to the Cadillac Cimarron which was discontinued after the 1988 model year. In its turn, the Catera was replaced by the Cadillac CTS in 2002.
 
The Cadillac Catera was a rebadged German-made Opel Omega for the North American market.
