Polestar 2 Sales Figures

Polestar 2

The Polestar 2 is the second model from Polestar, the EV brand of Volvo and its parent company Geely, since it become standalone brand in 2017. Production of the plug-in hybrid luxury coupe started in Luqiao, China in 2020. The five-door fastback is aimed directly at the Tesla Model 3, but its 4.6 meters length makes it the smallest midsized model. In fact, its size puts it more in the compact car segment. It’s powered by two 150kW electric motors, one per axle for all-wheel drive. The liquid cooled battery has 78kWh capacity which should give it a 500km range according to the WLTP testing cycle (275 miles EPA).

Polestar 2 Overview

The Polestar 2 is an all-electric compact executive car produced by Polestar, which began as the performance subsidiary of Volvo and later became a standalone brand focused on electric performance vehicles. Introduced in 2019, the Polestar 2 marked the brand’s entry into the mainstream electric vehicle market after the limited-production, high-performance hybrid Polestar 1 coupe.

The Polestar 2 features a unique “fastback” design, blending elements of sedans and hatchbacks. Its design is both modern and minimalist, with a clear Scandinavian influence. The car is built for performance. The dual-motor setup, which places a motor at each axle, provides all-wheel drive and produces a combined power of approximately 408 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque. This allows the Polestar 2 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.

The Polestar 2 is equipped with a 78 kWh battery, offering a range that’s competitive with other electric vehicles in its class. At its release, it boasted a WLTP range of around 292 miles, though real-world range will vary based on driving conditions and style.

The cabin of the Polestar 2 is a blend of luxury and technology. Notably, the car features an infotainment system powered by Google’s Android, offering native Google services like Google Maps and the Google Assistant, all without needing a connected smartphone. The system, with its 11-inch touch screen, is designed to receive over-the-air updates, similar to what Tesla offers in its vehicles.

The Polestar 2 is often compared to the Tesla Model 3 due to similarities in size, performance, and pricing. However, the two vehicles have distinct design philosophies and cater to slightly different audiences within the EV market.
