The ID.3 is Volkswagen’s third MEB model produced in China, after the ID.4 Crozz / ID.4X duo and the larger ID.6 Crozz / ID.6X duo, which are produced by the FAW-VW (Crozz versions) and SAIC-VW (X versions) joint ventures respectively. The ID.3 is produced by the SAIC-VW JV and has no clone yet from FAW-VW.

Prices range from 159,900 yuan (€22.300,- / US$ 25,000) to 173,900 yuan (€24.300,- / US$ 27,200) which means it competes with upscale domestic Chinese EVs like the GAC Aion S (139,600 to 205,800 yuan), Geometry A (118,700 to 198,700 yuan) and Xpeng P5 (157,900 to 223,900 yuan).

Car sales statistics from China only include domestic production and exclude imported models.

  1. Let’s say an understandable underwhelming start of ID3 sales in China, ramp up phase and all. Nevertheless, this model is about to enter its 3 year and sales in total are ca 85.000 in 2021.

VW’s share price dropped the last 3 months, Tesla’s marketcap went thru the roof: $1100 bn at a shareprice of 1100. Enough to acquire VW Group 5 times over, with money on he table to reel in Renault-Nissan + Ford. “New world order”, McKinsey will whisper in Diess’ ears ….
