The U5 is an electric compact crossover and the first model by Aiways, which is also planning to export the model to Europe. In fact, it has already delivered its first cars to car rental company Hertz for use on the French island Corsica which aspires to become an EV haven.

The Chinese market U5 is powered by a 125kW electric motor and its battery has a 63kWh capacity, offering an NEDC range of 503km. Dimensions are 4.680/1.865/1.684mm with a wheelbase of 2.800mm.

Prices range from 197.900 yuan (€24.000,- / US$  28,400) to 292.100 yuan (€35.500,- / US$  41,900) which means it competes with cars like the BYD Song Pro EV (179.800-219.800 yuan), BYD Tang EV (297.900-377.900), Weltmeister EX6 (189.900-239.900 yuan), and possibly the plug-in hybrid Leading Ideal One (328.000 yuan), while remaining more affordable than premium domestic EV rival NIO ES6 (358.000-518.000 yuan).

Car sales statistics from China only include domestic production and exclude imported models.
