Poll results: Fiat Tipo expected to do pretty well in Europe

Earlier this month we asked our readers if they thought Fiat was on the right track with the all-new Tipo “entry-compact” sedan, by launching a low-priced and low-tech sedan (a hatchback and station wagon will follow) after every previous attempt to sell a Volkswagen Golf rival has miserably failed.

Fiat-Tipo-auto-sales-statistics-Europe68% of respondents have faith in this strategy, with just over half of them predicting annual sales between 75.000-100.000 annual units, similar to the Skoda Rapid and Citroën C4 Cactus, while a third of respondents think the Tipo could beat the Bravo, which peaked at 93.397 sales in 2008. Another third predicts another failure for Fiat as it won’t even hit 75.000 sales in Europe. Mind you, this excludes Turkey, where the Tipo (under the name Ægea) is produced and where it should follow the Linea as the best selling vehicle overall.… Continue Reading …

Poll results: Megane vs. Astra in 2016

Three weeks ago I wrote an article about the predictions for the two renewed compact cars in Europe, the Renault Megane and the Opel/Vauxhall Astra, and we asked you guys what your thoughts about these forecasts were. With 122 voters, this has been one of the most popular polls so far and the article seems to have created a bit of a stir.

More than half of you thought that the Astra isn’t going to sell 300.000 units this year, but the Megane will easily beat the expected 190.000. There may have been some misunderstanding, as I concluded from the comments below that article. These are not the long-term sales volumes, but strictly limited to 2016, which means the new generation Megane will start with a disadvantage from not having a full year of sales.… Continue Reading …

Poll results: New Volvo S90 debuts

The votes are in, and it seems that the majority of you are very bullish on the S90’s prospects. This is interesting in the context of the kind of cars the S90 would have to beat on its way to sales of 40,000+ between the US and Europe: Jaguar XF, Lexus GS, maybe even Audi A6 in the US. What’s more, to get any sort of volume in the US the S90 would actually have to sell at least as well as its V70/XC70 sibling, which seems unlikely given that those models represent the concentrated essence of Volvo in the US. But, time will tell – we’ll be giving you updates throughout 2016.… Continue Reading …
