Lada

Lada-auto-sales-statistics-EuropeLada sales in Europe have fallen steadily from 2009 to 2014, and almost 95% of the brand’s sales in the last few years are the venerable small 3-door SUV Lada Niva, which has been on the market virtually unchanged since 1977. Sales rebounded in 2015 and 2016, even for the Niva.

Most European Lada sales are in Germany, where the Niva enjoys a somewhat “Cult” status. The brand is also sold in Hungary and the Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as it’s getting harder for the Niva to meet modern safety and emission standards in Western Europe.

Lada’s parent Renault has been working to re-introduce Lada to the European market as a defense against an oncoming invasion of Chinese autobrands, especially considering the success of its Romanian subsidiary Dacia. Lada already sells its Vesta compact sedan and is planning to launch the X-Ray hatchback-crossover, and is looking to expand its distribution network into France, Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia, Bulgaria, and other countries. The Vesta and X-Ray are based on reliable Renault/Dacia mechanics, but need more modern engines than the ones used in Russia if they want to become attractive to Western European car buyers.

The Russian brand has been a minor player in Europe for decades, with new millennium sales peaking at just over 10.000 units in 2000, 2004 and 2005 thanks to the Niva and 110 / 111 / 112, with market share peaking at 0,07%. Sales have been below 2.000 units from 2013 to 2015 with a market share of 0,01%. In 2016 the brand started to grow again and almost hit the 3.000 sales mark.

    Hallo,
152 Lada sales in the european market (july 2016) can not be right! In Germany alone 166 units have been sold in july 2016 (101 Niva and 65 Granta/Kalina).

Have a look at the official german statistic (july 2016): 🙂
    http://www.kba.de/SharedDocs/Publikationen/DE/Statistik/Fahrzeuge/FZ/2016_monatlich/FZ10/fz10_2016_08_pdf.pdf?__blob=publicationFile&v=2

      Hello Gerald,

thank you for your reply. The link you’ve supplied shows the August 2016 data for Germany, which we don’t yet have available for Europe.

At this moment, Lada is only officially imported in Germany and Hungary, so it would make sense that a large share of European Lada sales take place in Germany, as is supported by the data: January-July 2016 sales in Europe: 1.973 (Left-Lane.com), of which Germany: 905 (your link).

  2. Gerald Kainz says:

uuups, yes you are right … my link is shows august 😉

PS: Lada is also officially imported to in Austria… (by the german imorteur)

    http://www.lada.at

and I think Lada is also imported in Slovakia (http://lada-auto.sk) , the Cech Republik (only Niva) (www.lada.cz), Bulgaria (http://www.lada.bg) and Baltic States?!

    Greetings 🙂

    • Bart Demandt says:

      Thanks for that info, Gerald.

I knew Lada planned to expand their footprint to other European markets, so that’s probably also what’s causing the increase in sales this year. Good to see!

  3. Lada is officaly sale in Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and Austria. czech Republic is only un-official import from Germany, Slovakia and Russia. But statistic are aviable on http://portal.sda-cia.cz/stat.php?n#rok=2016&mesic=12&kat=OA&vyb=ktg&upr=&obd=m&jine=false&lang=CZ&str=nova

  4. Hi,

Lada is also available in Finland. Models are Granta, Kalina and Niva. New models Vesta and X-Ray should be come on sale end of this year.
Todays distributor is very small which means also low sale.

Let me know what you think of this article. Thanks!
