Jeep Commander Sales Figures

Jeep Commander

Here you will find yearly Canadian and U.S. sales figures for the Jeep Commander. The Jeep Commander is a mid-size SUV produced by the American automaker Jeep, a division of Stellantis (previously Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). The Commander was introduced in 2006 and was produced until 2010. It was positioned as a three-row, seven-passenger counterpart to the more popular Jeep Grand Cherokee, with which it shared many components.

Jeep Commander Overview

The Jeep Commander was unveiled at the 2005 New York Auto Show and went on sale later that year as a 2006 model. It featured a boxy, rugged design, reminiscent of the older Jeep vehicles, setting it apart from the smoother and more streamlined design of many contemporary SUVs.

The Commander utilized the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was slightly longer and taller than the Grand Cherokee to accommodate the third row of seats. Over its production run, the Commander offered a range of engines, including a 3.7-liter V6, a 4.7-liter V8, and a 5.7-liter HEMI V8. The HEMI variant came with the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) for improved fuel efficiency. The Commander, especially with the V8 engines, boasted a commendable towing capacity suitable for trailers, boats, or small campers.

The Jeep Commander was an attempt by Jeep to cater to larger families or those needing extra seating capacity without departing from the brand’s rugged, off-road image. Though it had a distinctive design and shared much with the successful Grand Cherokee, it struggled to carve out a substantial market niche. The Commander was discontinued after the 2010 model year, and Jeep would later reintroduce a three-row SUV with the Jeep Grand Cherokee L and the all-new Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer in the subsequent years.

Jeep Commander Sales Figures

The Commander saw modest sales during its production run. However, sales weren’t strong enough to justify a successor, especially given the challenges posed by the economic downturn and rising fuel prices. The Commander received mixed reviews. While its rugged design and off-road capabilities were praised, some critics and users pointed out its limited third-row space and reduced fuel efficiency, especially when compared to competitors.
