    Hi,

Great articles on the sales figures for Land Rover. I was wondering if you had, or knew where I could find, the GLOBAL sales volumes for the Land Rover Defender. I am doing part of my MBA dissertation on the Defender and why the company has decided to discontinue production. Obviously, inability to sell in the North American market and the new EU emissions regulation right around the corner in 2020 has put enough pressure on JLR to drop it (if you cant sell in two of the world’s largest markets, then whats the point?). However, it is also my understanding that the Defender, as a utility vehicle, cannot compete with the 1 ton pickup and the volumes have not been at a level that can justify keeping the Defender. I understand that for the Defender to be viable it would need to sell around 50K units per year, but has been hovering around 20K for the past decade. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Hello Peter, thanks for the compliments and your questions. I have written down my thoughts on the matter in this article: Why is the Land Rover Defender really killed?
I hope this answers your questions, and best of luck with your dissertation! I’d love to hear what your conclusions are, so please keep me up-to-date.

Let me know what you think of this article. Thanks!
