  1. It’s shocking how the ageing Punto has dropped sales dramatically. 2013 numbers were a quarter of 2006!

      Well, the Punto hasn’t really had any major redesigns since 2006…. Just a couple of facelifts, which didn’t do the model any favors. In my opinion, the original Grande Punto design with the Maserati-styled nose is still the best looking version of them all.
      On the other hand, the Opel Corsa, which is based on the same platform and has been kept alive with just a few facelifts since 2006 as well, has remained relatively stable….

  2. Fiat is a fool to let the Punto die a slow death and drop the name Punto for (yawn) yet another model using the name 500.
    Given that the poor Panda is not really a big hit outside Italy, it makes no sense to me to drop the name Punto in favour of the name Panda.

      They should’ve replaced the Punto a long time ago, but Sergio Marchionne decided to postpone it because his philosophy is that it doesn’t make sense to introduce a new model in times of crisis when car sales are down. Unfortunately, by now the customers have gone to other brands and may not return.
      The 500 branded models are commercially successful and profitable, so I understand this strategy. I’m no big fan of the 500L myself, especially the stretched version, but it sells like hot cakes, and so will the 500X (which I do like).
